Among English Hedgerows
The sun sets,
among English hedgerows.
A family of penguins
intend to terrorise
the rural idyll.
The English
hedgerow
offers scant
protection.
It’s thicket
cut down,
(possibly by
housing developers).
A woman wise to
her penguin
pursuers,
strives to put
distance
loath to become their quarry
fearing her tiny axe
is an inadequate defence.
Prays, somewhat un-Christianly
that the chap
with the shovel,
gets
eaten first.
I confess this was a very quick write as today has been super a busy and possibly the second glance at the book cover revealed that there may have been less penguins than I had initially anticipated.
