NAPOWRIMO 29 To be back home: A review

To be back home: A review

A
bit was
left behind in

Southampton.
It's sinking
Into sumptuous sofas.

It's
owner fears
leakage, numerous dangers.

Of
a truant
piece of heart.

The
quandary touches
me, you relate.

The
times that
generate such memories.

Will
understandbly demand
a happy sacrifice.

NAPOWRIMO 28 From there to now

From there to now
I have crossed the hump
Exploring the liminal
I won't look back, heard
Of salty transmutation
Skipping free, new horizons

NAPOWRIMO 27 Quake

Taxi
arrives I
jump in. Like
most
mornings my

driver is Nepalese.

want to
say something to
express
my sorrow
my solidarity for
whatever
loss he
feels. Words fail.
He
speaks hesitantly,
Have you seen
The
news? My
Country? The earthquake?
He
pours fourth.
That his family
are
safe, but
many souls lost
Eighteen
Everest dead
as mountains moved.
Of
Cultural treasures
reduced to rubble.

I
realised he
didn't need my
words
trite, condolences
just a vessel

to
capture his
own cascading grief

A portrait of Hindu goddess Lakshmi hangs on the remains of a house in Kathmandu

NAPOWRIMO 26 Bob

B is for Bob
I am Bob
So named because
B is for Bob
B is *hopefully* for benign
C is for complex ovarian cyst
D is for Dr GOOGLE
Who is not your friend
As a complex ovarian cyst
I consists of both fluid and solid
Am I?
Dermoid; a piece of tooth
Flap of skin
Endometrial; sludgy, old blood.
Growing outside the womb.
Cystadenoma: watery mucous.
Rupture and twist.
Hemorrhagic; blood vessels breach.
Ultrasound, CT scan,
35 mm by 35 mm
As I grow
So does your panic
Then poof...

I dissappear
All that perfectly good worry
Wasted

B is for Bob
B is for bastard

NAPOWRIMO 25 A Jenny by any name

A Jenny by any name.
Troglodytes Troglodytes
She flits around, is always flighty.
Are we surprised at little Jen's
Fitting, flitting Latin name for wren.

Little Jenny wren is jiggly
Like a fruit, not worm wriggly
She'd rather nom a pomegranate
Than the tastiest invertebrates on the planet.

NAPOWRIMO 24 Wordsworth fail me

Wordsworth fail me.
I WANDERED lonely as a shopping trolley.
That sinks low in pond and stream,
When all at once I saw a volley,

Of traffic cones a vibrant team;
Besides the bottles, beneath the debris
In disbelief my tears run free.

NAPOWRIMO 23 Mythic Tarot

Mythic Tarot
High Priestess, cow eyed,
ethereal, pale
skinned, dark hair hangs
free. Grasp narcissus, symbol
of your abduction, bejeweled

pomegranate, a
bargaining chip between two
opposing forces. Peril
unless you negotiate
Mother love and destiny

NAPOWRIMO 22 How doees your window box grow

How does your window box grow.
I was dubious.
Courgettes were lingering, seeds
seemed dormant, sulking
petulant toddlers.Peek-a
boo. Sprouting proud, majestic.

NAPOWRIMO 21 Erased

Erased
Obliterated
Only a shadow, behind
this photograph.
A shadow, dead mothers become.
In her eyes. I am not there.

*erasure poem from The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

NAPOWRIMO 20

Surrender
I know about the
wisdom of surrender, not
martially, laying
ones arms, laying down troubles
in the lap of the goddess.

NAPOWRIMO 19 ‪#‎yesallwomen‬

Not all men, your accusation plain.
Still, women need stragetise when sitting on a train.

NAPOWRIMO 18 Scales of judgement.

Scales of judgement.
Hurry, scurry, throw
on your clothes make sure it's your
light weight top. Quick grab
your book, get jogging to class.
It will soon be judgement time.

A message of doom.
Or a chance to rejoice as
you step on the scales.
The tidings they .bare, don't give

into despair, a measure...
Of weight not your worth.

NAPOWRIMO 17 FEED ME!

FEED ME!
My old friend is named
Itch. We spray seashells with
gold paint.  Tells me how
mermaids make waves in the sea.
We try pole dancing. Life's too short.

NAPOWRIMO 16 Whistable, more than just oysters!

Whistable, more than just oysters!
This is the day we had an adventure.
Carefully all of our options were weighed.
A sea side day trip, not a grand gesture.

Whistable, famous for its oyster trade.
Our destination for our loves long day.
Carefully all our options were weighed.

Followed by the sadest street display.
Three ninjas drum as we bimbled along.
Our destination for our loves long day.

Antique and thrift shops were where people throng.
Bewildered by the clamour of the drums.
Three ninjas drum as we bimbled along.

Sought out a sanctuary, parked our bums.
A spot of light lunch, and safe place to harbour.
Bewildered by the clamour of drums.

I spy with my little eye, I then spy a little harder.
Eyes widen, guffaw loudly I choke on,
A spot of light lunch, and a safe harbour.

A poster for 'strumming' a ukuathon.
This is the day we had an adventure
Eyes widened, guffaw loudly I choke on.
A seaside trip, not a grand gesture.

NAPOWRIMO15 Going Steady

Dear poetry it
would seem that Tanka
and I are going steady.
Other forms seem to cause stressed / unstressed stress, had clu.msy feet.

NAPOWRIMO 14 A dialogue

A dialogue will
not illustrate difference.
We are two pitch black
angels.  Shining light in the
inky spaces, when wobbling.
'Can you take a call
tomorrow a woman will ring
about a reference;
just for a voluntary job
running a karaoke'.
It's for disabled
adults, I give a glowing reference.
Then ring you at lunch
'You are a div, which I know
Is not pc but we are... '
'Both fully fledged
card carrying crips who can
reclaim language used
to disparage people with
disabilities...div why?'
'You forgot to say
that you volunteered with me
for four years doing
music workshops with teens
when you were my volunteer'
'I did mention it'
We talk about random
little things, growing
chives and the joys of being
able to spiralise veg.
My heart aches that no
more, when my heart is inky
will we sit at the
wobbling table, ladies who
stare at green tea contrails
Finding solace in
it and each other no need
to fill the silence
just shine dim light and see
a metaphor in that table

NAPOWRIMO 13 Promise

What can break before being used?
Be empty before being unwrapped?
Like a baby easy to make,
Harder to deliver.

NAPOWRIMO 12 Call me Ishmael

Image result for call me ishmael

Call me Ishmael*
White turbid wake; pale
waters. Diver sun goes down
warm waves blush like wine.
Lovely light, illuminates
not me, damned in paradise.

*so tired couldn't conjure my own prose but saw a lovely sunset driving along the coast so shamelessly borrowed from Melville.
