#NaPoWriMo2026 #Day21 #FifaByAnyOtherName #Nicknames

A Fifa by any other name...

1. Fifa

child‑tongue stumbles, named

by a cousin testing sounds

a nickname takes root

2. Baldric

hatching cunning plans

while scrubbing vases in that

fancy flower shop

3. Troglodytes

wren‑shaped heart, hopping

small but loud as any storm,

tiny yet mighty

4. Queenie

circle gathers close;

I hold court with open hands,

straighten others’ crowns

#NaPoWriMo2025 #Day21 #SonataOfTheHunt

Sonata of the Hunt: A Ritual of Whimsy

Presto

Before the annual performance of the hunt commences, eggs must be manifested through a vigil of grief and elbow barging – some eggs must be unobtainable and others must sob softly whilst trying to remain composed.

Forte

Those preparing to stalk will be issued a basket, a hand grabber and an undeniable urge to break into choreographed stage fighting, the eggs will gallantly attempt to dance, but will freeze if an adult looks on.

Crescendo

If two hunters reach for the same egg a rap battle must commence and if the egg cannot decide who is the winner it will crack and issue a prophecy through the medium of mime.

Scherzo

At random intervals a half rabbit half duck will materialise and slightly mock the proceedings with startled quacking.

Diminuendo

The hunt ends when either Jesus returns as a piƱata, and children beat him with wooden spoons and lilac skittles rain from the heavens or Ostara appears demanding that her festival, though never stolen, is returned.

#napowrimo2022 #day21 #thankyou

"Thank you"

Thank you, for teaching me
the right time to walk away,
to vigorously tend my boundaries,
to refuse to shut up, shrinking,
dimming my light so yours looked
brighter didn’t serve either of us.

Thank you, for teaching me
the right time to walk away,
to vigorously tend my boundaries,
to refuse to sacrifice my physical
and mental health of the altar
of local authority youth work.

Thank you, for teaching me
the right time to dive deeper,
to vigorously tend my cerebral
cauldron, to know how to brew
it up and how to say stop little pot,
stop, thank you too for the Bell Jar.

Exactly when will we no longer need these lessons?

There was a woman turned to owl

There was a woman made of flowers.

There was a women two men would coerce.

There was a woman made to love.

There was a woman used to break a curse

There was a woman loved another.

There was a woman tempted to sin.

There was a woman and her lover.

There was a woman who would plot to kill.

There was a woman used her cunning.

There was a woman tried and failed.

There was a woman angered two magicians.

There was a woman turned to owl.
